BETTY TAMPOSI’S MOTHERHOOD ACTIVISM: Social Security recipients will need a relationship with their competent Congress person. I don’t know Maggie Goodlander, but I knew her Mom in the day, Betty Tamposi.

If the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree Betty would have been a Democrat – a conservative Democrat in the 80’s, but a Democrat. Maggie Goodlander has a new and improved formula about that. Betty was a very independent woman when the NH political system was literally, and totally, Republican. Betty was a neutralizing force inside the then rather crazy GOP.

Betty was reasonable, fair, and she knew how to finesse the powers that be to moderate them.

I often wondered what happened to Betty, she seemed to be more and more out of the political day to day politics. I always wondered why she left politics – or so it seemed.

Watching Maggie Goodlander’s role in Congress unfold I realized Betty never really left politics. Nope. Not at all.

Betty Tamposi clearly was passing her political skill set – which was always extraordinary and substantial, to her daughter, Maggie Goodlander.

And as usual, Betty Tamposi was very, very successful and her daughter is well on her way to a really important Congressional career.

Maggie Goodlander is settling into Congress just fine. If she can manage to have not only the independence from her AIPAC money, but also the appearance of independence from her AIPAC money, she will become the total political powerhouse her mom was before Maggie Goodlander was born.

I hadn’t thought about it in years, but I still can’t figure out how on earth Chuck Douglass won that primary. I never got that one.

It is poetic justice that Maggie Goodlander fills that seat, and fills that seat as a Democrat.

I don’t like Maggie Goodlander’s AIPAC money. Not at all. But there is no way I’m going to prejudge Betty Tamposi’s daughter. Nope.

Knowing Betty Tamposi – and we all got to know her very well so very long ago – it would be a mistake to prejudge Maggie Goodlander.

Nope. Not going to make that mistake here.

Maggie Goodlander has absolutely prepared herself and her skill set to succeed for the people of NH in Congress. And her journey may very well go way beyond that.

Fingers crossed on this one. She would have made a much better Senate candidate and Senator than lazy, incompetent, lightweight Pappas.

There would still be time.
